The term diesel turbo refers to any engine that works on diesel and is equipped with a turbocharger. There are a number of advantages of harnessing the use of a turbocharger in a vehicle. Why Do Engines Use Turbo Charging 

The engines that run on diesel are suited to use Turbocharging due to two main reasons: 
  1. When excess air is provided to the diesel turbo engine by the turbocharger, the air-fuel ratio balance can easily be maintained. This is because the torque is controlled not by the amount of air-fuel mixture, but due to the mass of fuel that enters into the combustion chamber. This mass of fuel getting into the combustion chamber is termed as an "air-fuel ratio." 
  2. The excessive quantity of gas present in the cylinder is due to the fact that Turbocharging increases the ratio of compression, which can result in a phenomenon known as pre-ignition. In a diesel turbo engine, pre-ignition doesn't occur. This is because the combustion chamber doesn't hold fuel at the time of the compression stroke. 
If you wish to increase the density, you can harness the use of an intercooler, which will help to cool the intake of air and make it denser.

Difference Between Ordinary Engines And Turbo Diesel Engines

There are a number of remarkable ways in which diesel turbo engines are different from ordinary engines. Diesel engines require a much larger amount of air to enable combustion. In an ordinary diesel engine, there is no provision for a device which will help to gather air from external sources. It is the engine that has to do so. This accounts for the slow pickup and low speed of ordinary diesel engines. 

On the contrary, in turbo diesel engines, there is an additional turbocharger that helps to draw the air. The turbocharger doesn't only draw air but also helps to compress the air and send it to the engine. This results in the diesel turbo driven engines being much more efficient and swift as compared to the ordinary engines.

Advantages Of Using Turbo Diesel Engines

There are a number of advantages of diesel turbo engines. The availability of diesel accounts for the vast application of turbo-diesel engines is in everything ranging from bulldozers, trains, cranes, and so on. 
  1. Turbo-diesel engines are efficient, economical, and much simpler to use. 
  2. Diesel is a mildly volatile fuel. Therefore, it is safer to use turbo diesel engines. 
  3. These engines are ideally suited for transporting huge loads at slow speeds. Therefore, they can be used for hauling heavy locomotives such as trucks, buses, ships, etc. 
  4. Diesel turbo engines are more robust and long-lasting as compared to any other engine.
